Thank you for visiting my personal website! My name is Linda J. de Wit; the J is for Jeanine. I am a freelance writer, photographer, and graphic designer from the Netherlands currently living in Palestine.
I am what you could call very Dutch: exceptionally tall, blond, cheese enthusiast. I grew up in a small town and moved to the city of Leiden to go to university. After completing two Bachelor’s programs in Philosophy and Political Sciences, I left the country to travel, intern, work, and obtain a Master’s degree in Global Studies – from Argentina to India, and from Spain to Dubai.
It took five continents for me to admit I always found myself coming back to the MENA region. I lived for varying periods of time in Egypt, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates. I am fascinated by the region’s significance and, after a lot of struggle, I am finally wrapping my head (and tongue) around Arabic.
After working in international development and education, I decided to pursue freelance journalism so I could fully follow my love of exploration and research. I am self-taught in photography and graphic design and primarily work with Photoshop and InDesign. I also have experience in website design using WordPress, SquareSpace, HTML, and CSS.
Following a love of exploration and research and never giving up on the (extra)ordinary, I am driven by a profound interest in culture and language and the belief that the world is not as random as it seems. In a world connected but divided, I hope to see more curiosity. With understanding comes appreciation.,and I hope to contribute to more curiosity in our connected but divided world. This is reflected in my writings.
I am an avid language learner. I now speak about six (French, German, Spanish, Arabic, and of course Dutch and English) and have studied several more. In an attempt to help others who are facing the same difficulties of finding good resources as I have gone through, I created the below pages:
